Using Firefox, the Mozilla project’s new browser, for several weeks now gives me more and more great surprises each day. Its extensibility and flexibility in configuration makes it a great tool for browsing the net.
I always loved the tabbed browsing Opera offered as the first major browser implementation. So this was the functionality Firefox had to offer as well. Just one glitch: You certainly know the sites that open new windows and resize and move them on the screen? Not a problem with single-window-browsing. But resizing a window in a tabbed environment means resizing the whole window with all the other site’s tabs as well. Sucks.
My idea: have a look into Firefox’s configuration (you can reach it by typing “about:config” into the address bar) and filter for “resize”. What item do you see? “dom.disable_window_move_resize”. Just set it to “true” and all the hassle is gone.
I love it!
This project was one of those which did excite me most when I moved from east Berlin to Stuttgart in 1989: Biosphere II. For me, it was just too crazy to build a big house of glas and create a biosphere which simulates all climatic zones of the world. I read all the articles in GEO and every other magazine, and followed all news. It always seamed to be so unimaginable and far away… Now that I’ve been in Arizona, I’m really angry that I didn’t go there. The reason why is, that they are closing the building. Damned. www.bio2.com.
